Course Description

A survey of the social, political, religious and economic history of the British Isles from 1485 through 1714. Topics include: the formation of Tudor state, the Protestant Reformation, the conquest of Ireland and the origins of the British Empire, the union of the kingdoms of England and Scotland under the Stuart dynasty, the English Civil War and the execution of Charles I, the Interregnum, the restoration of the monarchy in 1660, and the Glorious Revolution of 1689. Prerequisites: Junior standing and 100-level History course or instructor consent.
